On December 28, 2003,
the suspect visited a church daycare center where he dropped off gifts for the children. Then, at the same location, he attended
a church service, followed by trying to walk out the door with an infant. He was stopped at the door when ushers noticed that
the Caucasian suspect was trying to leave with an African-American infant. Ushers took the child away from the suspect who fled
before police arrived. Witnesses described the suspect's T-shirt as bearing the emblem of a local fire department. A sketch
was developed, and investigators took it to the location where several people said it resembled a particular individual who was a
relative of one of their co-workers The suspect was positively identified by witnesses and arrested.
